Edgar Cruz,

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist 131726

One of the most important factors in success with therapy is being open. That requires finding someone you are comfortable with exposing insecurities, doubts, and fears. I hope to create a safe space and connection with you that cultivates growth and insight.

I am passionate about being a therapist and truly believe this is a life’s calling. In my own therapy journey, I have discovered that progress is not linear and that finding someone that aligns with you is of utmost importance. I will assist you in nurturing your own fulfillment.

Utilizing a multidimensional approach and a variety of techniques and interventions, we will work towards finding methods that are tailored to your needs and desires. I am also not shy about sprinkling in some humor and creativity to build a connection with you or further insight. These approaches and techniques will evolve as I get to know you better and we go further along in your therapeutic journey.

Educational Background

At California Lutheran University (CLU), I earned a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy. In the same program, I specialized in trauma assessment and treatment. Previously, I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, with a minor in Biology, from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).

Experience

I provided individual, child and adolescent, couples, and family therapy at CLU’s Community Counseling Clinic, in English and Spanish. At Ventura County SELPA and Conejo Valley Unified School District, I conducted psychoeducational programs in classrooms, facilitated the process and support groups for at-risk youth, and provided individual therapy to students with individualized education plans (IEPs).

Most recently, during my work at Destinations for Teens, a teen dual diagnosis residential inpatient program, I worked with high-risk teens with a history of suicidal ideation, behavioral issues, self-harm, substance use, and severe depression and/or anxiety. I have experiences that allow me to comfortably work with children, teens, and adults of all ages, with a range of diagnoses, demographics, identities, and cultural backgrounds. I do not approach any two clients the same and understand effective therapy comes from getting to know you first and foremost. That is the key to which I hope we can unlock your potential.
