This blog shares information with you on what makes our Simi Valley therapists special. There are more than tens of thousands of therapists across California holding in-person therapy or virtual therapy. Each therapist brings their own passion to the field–who they work with, what issues they treat, and the legacy they want to create in their lives.

Right at the border of Los Angeles County and Ventura County, you’ll find New Leaf Marriage & Family Therapy. We’re a group practice specializing in providing holistically minded and culturally humble psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, and families. Right here in Simi Valley, we proudly offer LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy services.

Being a beacon of hope and optimism for the local community is something our therapists are emotionally invested in. We are also not too far from Northridge, Porter Ranch, Moorpark, or Thousand Oaks, making your commute to therapy a breeze. If you’re further than these cities, we also offer virtual therapy.

It can be hard reviewing potential therapists and trying to figure out if they’d be a good fit for you or your loved one. You may have had bad experiences with past therapists, or struggle to trust people in general. I encourage you to reach out to us today to start the conversation on starting therapy near Moorpark.

Their Educational Paths

someone with a busy schedule finding out when is the right time to start therapy in simi valley

All of our therapists are California Lutheran University alumnus, meaning they all went through the same, excellent program that is offered locally in Thousand Oaks. Our therapists rave about their meaningful, educational experience at CLU. Alongside that, CLU has a low-cost community counseling clinic open to the public that they all trained in.

Our passionate therapists take additional steps to specialize in certain areas of the field, or have done prior specializations at the beginning of their journey. This includes specializing in trauma assessment and treatment, therefore our Simi Valley therapists operate from a trauma-informed lens.

Additional specializations include family and child development and attachment styles. One clinician, Cinthia Ferreira-Miller, also received training in brainspotting and perinatal mental health. Their persistence to continue honing their craft is evident in the way that they provide evidence based treatment to their clients. This combination of skillsets makes for an experienced team of Simi Valley therapists!

Their Various Experiences in the Field

Our therapists were fortunate enough to work with diverse populations during their initial training and in their present day work. As mentioned, all of our therapists spent a few years working in the CLU community counseling center. This allowed them to connect with various members of the surrounding communities.

Some therapists worked in educational settings while others gained experience through intensive treatment programs. This has instilled confidence in them to work with adolescents, parents, adults, couples, and families altogether.

A few issues our therapists are especially passionate about working with include:

  • LGBTQIA+
  • Neurodivergence
  • Trauma
  • Relationship issues
  • Stress or anger management
  • Life transitions
  • Perfectionism
  • Depression
  • Anxiety

Needless to say, our therapists are ready to work with you on an array of issues. If there’s an area that our therapists don’t feel competent in, we do our best to guide you towards someone that specializes in it. Feel free to give us a call to discuss what’s been going on lately, to understand if we’re the best fit for your needs.

We also screen for the appropriate level of care to ensure that you’re in the right place. Our recommendations for care are based upon our clinical judgment, as we want you to get the help you need and deserve. For example, we typically offer therapy once per week. If you’re looking to attend therapy several times per week, we can help connect you to that outside of our group.

We’re Engaged in the Local Community

Our therapists are happy to offer in-person counseling in Simi Valley. Our office location is near the intersection of Cochran St. and Tapo St. This location is near various high schools which is convenient for teen therapy services. Alongside this, we see clients needing after-school hours.

Natalie Bologna, our clinical director, is proud to have been a part of several wellness fairs at local high schools. We bring a table with various coping resources, insight-building games, and motivational quotes to share with students and staff alike. We also partner with local schools to provide crisis counseling in times of need.

Aside from this, we want to ensure that if we’re not the right fit for our clients, that we guide them in the right direction. This could look like referring them to the Free Clinic of Simi Valley for counseling, medical, or legal needs. As mentioned above, we also make referrals to the CLU Counseling Center for low-cost counseling as well.
